Gig Harbor Karate Academy
Parent Manual
The purpose of this document is to inform parents of children enrolled in youth martial arts programs about the rules, policies and procedures of the Academy. Our school functions with the assumption that all parents play an important role in their child’s success in karate, and in the operations of the Academy.
All parents are responsible for reading this manual in-full and for staying “up-to-date” on all Academy schedules, programs, curriculum, special events, and closures.
For your convenience we have separated this manual into the following sections:
- Codes of Conduct: All members of the school are equally important and their roles must be clearly defined.
- School Rules: These behavioral guidelines form the structure around which we develop self-discipline in all youth students.
- General Information: GHKA location, website, phone number, hours of operation, services and payment policies.
- Curriculum: The basic structure of the youth curriculum including the belt system, martial arts terminology, and other important information. This section also includes sparring rules.
- History & Philosophy: Martial arts are not just about earning stripes, belts and learning technique. The practice of martial arts is a process of self-development. This section provides a brief history of martial arts in general and describes our training philosophy.
- Conclusion: The most important things for you to understand as a parent of a martial arts student.
