Gig Harbor Karate Academy
Codes of Conduct
Student’s Code of Conduct
- As a student, my primary goal is learning.
- I will try to come to every class with an “empty cup,” and keep an open mind.
- I will avoid competing against my fellow students.
- I will not teach my fellow students unless I am instructed otherwise.
- I will respect my training partner by keeping myself under control.
- I will follow the school rules at all times.
- When practicing with weapons I will mind my surroundings and be responsible and safe.
- I will not engage in horseplay in the dojo.
- I will take responsibility for all my own equipment and have it ready for every class.
- If I arrive early to the dojo I will remain quiet, so as not to disturb the class in session.
Parent’s Code of Conduct
- I understand that my child’s regular attendance is the key to his/her success.
- It is my responsibility to remain up-to-date on the school schedule, closures and special events.
- My role is to support my child’s training in every way possible.
- I will not instruct my child(ren) on how to perform martial arts movements during class or at home. If my child has a question I will direct them to the sensei. This statement refers to the technical aspect of the movements – the exact range of motion and body positioning involved in the movement. Parents are encouraged to point out to their kids if their movements look “sloppy,” or “weak.”
- I will support the school and its instructors in every way possible, especially by generating referrals.
- I will follow all school policies and adhere to all school rules.
- I will support the GHKA pro-shop by purchasing all of the required training gear from the school. I understand that my purchases are extremely helpful in keeping the school financially healthy.
- If I have a concern about any aspect of the Academy it is my responsibility to communicate that concern.
- If my child has been sick (persistent cough, runny nose, fever, or vomiting) I will keep them home to prevent the illness spreading to the other students.
Spectators Code of Conduct
- All spectators will observe the posted “Spectators Code of Conduct.”
- Spectators will remain in the viewing areas and are not allowed in the training area.
- Spectators will silence their cell phones while watching class.
- Spectators may take photos with instructor permission.
- Spectators may not video tape any segment of class with a video camera or a mobile phone.
- Spectators with children will supervise their children at all times.
