Recognize & Avoid A Threat

The highest form of self defense is to avoid a conflict before it occurs.  There are some simple ways to increase your awareness of threats (without becoming paranoid):

  1. Trust Your Instincts: If you have a strange felling about a “creepy” guy, stay away and casually observe his behavior.
  2. Don’t Be Alone: When you go places alone (especially at night) you are an easier target for a would-be attacker.  Use the buddy system whenever possible.
  3. Pay Attention To Your Surroundings: Staying aware of your surroundings will help you avoid being a compromising position.
  4. Be Confident: if you appear nervous or scared you are a better target, walk tall and keep your head up.
  5. Give Up Your Property If It Will Save Your Life:  If you can let go of your purse or get out of your car and stay safe, then do it.  Your life is more valuable than any possession.
