Youth Karate Schedule Details
White Belt Classes
The class name refers to the skills emphasized during class time. During White Belt Classes all students (regardless of their belt level) will train the skills for the White Belt level.
- All new students should attend at least 2 White Belt Classes every week.
- Colored belts are welcome to attend White Belt classes for review and to assume a leadership role.
- All colored belt students should attend at least 1 White Belt Class every week.
Why do we allow colored belts to attend White Belt Classes?
- White belts need youth role models to follow during class time.
- Colored belts need to review their basic skills.
- Colored belts need more training time than White Belts because they have more material to master.
Colored Belt Classes
Colored Belt Classes are open to all colored belt levels. Colored Belt Classes will cover a wide range of material: weapons, kata, hand & foot basics, partner drills, and rolling/falling.
- Colored belt students should attend at least 1 Colored Belt Class every week.
Orange Belt & Above Classes
These advanced colored belt classes will focus on the skills for Orange, Blue, Green & Brown 3. Orange Belt & Above training is focused on developing the more complex and difficult technical skills in the San Do Kuen Martial Arts system.
Sparring Classes
Sparring Classes are for colored belts only (Yellow Stripe & above). Classes focus on training hand & foot basics in a sport karate context.
- Sparring requires protective gear (all of which is sold at GHKA).
- All colored belts should attend at least one sparring class/week.
Stripe Testing/Fitness Testing
Stripe & Fitness Testing is offered once/week on Fridays and is open to all youth students. This class time is used to test each student individually on a single belt requirement for their belt level. Students may also use their testing opportunity to test for a Fitness Star.
- All students should attend Stripe/Fitness Testing at least twice in every month.
All Belts Classes
We offer 1 All Belts Class on Saturday mornings. All Belts Classes are open to all youth students and will cover a wide range of material depending on the rank distribution of each individual class session.
Attendance + Home Practice = Success
ATTENDING CLASSES IS NOT ENOUGH TO EXCEL IN MARTIAL ARTS.
- All students should be practicing at home at least once a week for 10-30 minutes!
Practice time does not have to be completed in a single session. For example: a student could do 2-3 shorter practice sessions of 5-10 minutes rather a single session of 30 minutes.
Students who choose to practice at home and attend classes regularly will progress at a faster rate than those do not practice at home and/or do not attend classes regularly.
